A roundtrip tour around the famous Drei Zinnen di Lavaredo, this route takes the Passportensteig (A) Innerkofler de Luca Via Ferratas (B/C) to the Drei Zinnen Hut (also Rifugio A. Locatelli S. Innerkofler) and returns via a pleasant hiking trail.

Author’s recommendation

This route is very popular. We recommend starting early to beat the crowds. Keep your headlamp hand for the tunnel.

Safety information

This tour should only be undertaken with experience and knowledge of via ferrata safety.

Tips, hints and links

If anybody is not up for a via ferrata, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking tours in the area.

It is possible to do this route in reverse, so that the descent is on an A via ferrata versus a B/C via ferrata. However, it is very important to leave very early, as this route can get crowded and doing the approach hike first will delay your start.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Rifugio Auronzo, take the large track toward Rifugio Lavaredo/Lavaredo Hut. Continue past the rifugio toward the Paternsattel/Forcella Lavaredo. From there, turn right onto the easy Passportensteig (difficulty rating A) to the Paternkofel, and then descend on the Innerkofler de Luca Via Ferrata/Klettersteig (difficulty rating B/C with UIAA 1- unsecured climbing) to the Drei Zinnen/Tre Cime Hut.

This is the last via ferrata of your tour, so a celebratory drink and dessert at the Drei Zinnen Hut is in order! Congratulations!

After refreshing yourself at the hut, head south, or downhill toward the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, on the large trail. As you descend, you will see a large trail cutting across a scree slope toward the left side of your view. This is trail 101 and is the most direct route back to your hut. But, for more views, we recommend you take the route you see that makes its way toward the right side of Tre Cime di Lavaredo, using trail 105. This route is about a kilometer longer than the first option, but allows you to do a full circuit around the spectacular rock formation. We recommend taking trail 105, first to Col Forcellina, followed by Col di Mezzo, and finally to Rifugio Auronzo.
