From Tré le Champ the trail climbs via Aiguillette de Argentière to the Grand Balcon Sud of the Aiguilles Rouges, taking in a few fixed ladders on the way. You are now in the Aiguilles Rouge Nature Reserve and sightings of Ibex, Marmot and many other furry creatures are common. The refuge at the beautiful Lac Blanc is surrounded by high peaks and gives a grand view of Mont Blanc across the valley. It is possible to avoid the ladders by taking the variant via Col Des Montets.

Duration: 3 hrs

Ascent / Descent: 976m / 50 m

Map: IGN 3630 OT CHAMONIX

Guidebook: Page 115: STAGE 10: Tré-le-Champ – Le Flégère Follow the descriptions in the guidebook and then take the Lac Blanc Option described on page 119.

Notes:

1. The ladders on this section are not particularly high but if you don’t like heights I would suggest taking the variant described on page 118 via Col des Montets.

2. This is a fairly short stage and you will only be able to check in to the refuge about mid-afternoon, although there is no finer place for a relaxed lunch in good weather. There are also some lovely walks around the lakes.

3. There is no bag transfer available to Refuge Lac Blanc so be sure to carry your overnight things in your day pack and you will be reunited with your main bag the following day.

Transport

If you don’t want to complete the full walk today you could take the bus to le Praz de Chamonix and telepherique to Le Flégère, from where it is a one-hour walk to Refuge du Lac Blanc.
