The Hörnle, Bad Kohlgrub's local mountain, is the entrance to the Ammergau Alps Nature Park. Consisting of the three peaks Vorderes (1484 m), Mittleres (1496 m) and Hinteres Hörnle (1548 m), there are already impressive views of the "Voralpen" during the ascent from Bad Kohlgrub. From above, the view expands over the "Voralpen" with the Bavarian lakes and the peaks of the Wetterstein, Karwendel and Ammergauer Alps become visible. We start the varied tour up to the Hörnle peaks with adidas TERREX. Past the Zeitberg (directly at the mountain station of the Hörnle cable car) via the Vordere and past the Mittlerer Hörnle we reach the Hintere Hörnle with its fantastic 360° panoramic view.

Destination

Hörnlebahn valley station in Bad Kohlgrub

Turn-by-turn directions

From the Hörnlebahn car parking slot we walk uphill through the forest along the Harrer Graben until we come to a definded and signed hiking trail. There we turn left, cross the ski slope and continue uphill. At a larger junction we turn right at an acute angle and follow the path in the direction of the Hörnlebahn. However, we do not go under it, but turn left beforehand. The path winds further up through the forest until we come to another fork in the road, where we turn sharply to the right. At the T-junction we turn right to the Hörnlehütte at the mountain station of the Hörnlebahn, where we can take a break and explore the stations of the Zeitberg. We then return to the junction and continue straight ahead. After a few meters we keep to the left and reach the 1484 m high summit of the Vorderen Hörnles via a few hairpin bends. Now we continue our way in the direction of the Mittleres Hörnle, but do not climb up to the summit, but walk past it to the left a little below, following the winter hiking trail. Then we pass the Hörnle-Alm and approach the Hinteres Hörnle, to the summit of which a little later a path branches off to the right. The ascent is worthwhile, because the view here extends from the Estergebirge over the Wettersteingebirge and over the Ammergau and Allgäu Alps. From the summit we descend a short distance on the same path on which we came, but then turn right and hike in a northwesterly direction over the Elmauberg. Our path ends at a T-junction and we continue to the left. In a right turn it goes over the Elmaubach and we reach the junction where we turned right on the way there. Now we follow the path we came on back to the car parking slot at the Hörnlebahn valley station.
