A wonderful snowshoe hike through forests, meadows and with beautiful viewpoints, leads us to one of the most beautiful and mysterious power places in Austria.

According to legend, Lucifer, after being cast out of heaven into hell, was to be taken back into heaven if he built a tower from earth to heaven on the holy night of Christ. Lucifer carried three big giant stones up to the Fischbacheralpe, but he could not reach heaven in the imposed time limit. Wildly he went back to hell, but he left the three stones on the Fischbacheralpe, and they are called "the devil's stone" after him.
The oldest cult site in Styria attracts numerous hikers as well as enthusiasts every year at the winter solstice, who watch the natural spectacle together.

Turn-by-turn directions
- We start at the Zellerkreuz
- We hike leisurely in the direction of Nordern until we come to the sign "Direction Hochlantsch".
- Soon we reach the Alptor
- We keep left and reach the Halterhütte a little later
- Past the halterhütte we come to an alpine meadow, which we cross
- We cross the forest road and by the last ascent we reach the Teufelstein
- We follow the green marking "Schanzsattel"
- Here we pass the small Teufelstein
- Now we keep to the marking "Teufelsteinrunde".
- We come to the Schanz via a forest path
- From there we take the small path next to the main road uphill.
- At two crossroads, which are close to each other, we take the right-hand path in each case
- Now we come back to the forest road, which leads us back to Zellerkreuz

By road
Von Wien über die Südautobahn A2 und die Semmering-Schnellstraße S6 bis zur Abfahrt Kindberg. Hier durch das Stanzertal auf der Schanzsattel-Landesstraße L114 zum Zellerkreuz (auf der linken Straßenseite) - knapp vor Fischbach.
Von Graz über die Weizer-Bundesstraße B72 bis Birkfeld und ab hier über die Schanzsattel-Landesstraße L114 nach Fischbach - durch den Ort nach knapp 2 km zum Zellerkreuz (auf der rechten Straßenseite).
Von Linz/Salzburg/München über die Pyhrnautobahn A9 und die Semmering-Schnellstraße S6 bis zur Abfahrt Kindberg. Weiter wie oben.

Equipment
Basically, of course, you should adapt the equipment to the planned tour - for this leisurely snowshoe hike it is enough to simply tie the snowshoes over your winter boots/boots and start trudging. Also take ski poles with wide snow plates with you - they are very practical, especially on the descent.However, a backpack should always be with you and proper backpacking makes a lot of things easier: pack heavy things first. The water or tea bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket. All things that are often needed such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map belong on top.
An emergency kit (incl. blister plaster) belongs in every backpack!
Before the start of the hike, check the opening times for refreshments and pack the appropriate food.
Warm clothing, whereby clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended - because it can be quite "sweaty" to trudge so comfortably through the snow.
