Styria Heart Path
Hike on the Römerweg on the sunny side of the Wechsel in the direction of Vorauer Schwaig or Hochwechsel
The Trahütte is located on the Kohlweg between the Wechsel and Glashütten. The name Trahütte probably comes from the "porters" who carried the coal along the "Kohlweg" to the glass production.

Turn-by-turn directions
We take as starting point the village square in St. Lorenzen and walk in the direction of the sports field. We always follow the signs Glatzl-Trahütten-Alm, VorauerSchwaig, Hochwechsel. For now, we're heading in the direction of Wechselland-Parcours, but we'll take it another time. Today we go past it to the "Alm".
We go along the marked path through the forest uphill and cross a forest road after about 1/2 hour. We stay on the hiking trail, which subsequently always meets the toll road, which provides access to the Trahütten-Alm in large serpentines. With the baby carriage we can transfer this hike to this forest road.
After a little more than an hour, we reach a crossroads that offers two different options for continuing:
1) We want to continue hiking more comfortably, then we continue along the forest road for about 500 m until we reach a large crossroads, which is called " Jakominiplatz " by the hunters and forest owners, as indicated by a sign. There we also see the signpost "Trahütten-Alm" (in about half an hour we reach the idyllically situated alp and can really relax and strengthen)
2) We want to go further uphill and so we keep going in the direction of Vorauer Schwaig until further up at a large clearing a signpost indicates "Trahütten-Alm" and leads down to the left into the forest - from there we have reached our destination in 10 minutes. (Tip for the next hike: from there, take the Römerweg in the direction of Vorauer Schwaig and Hochwechsel).
When the weather is clear, the view reaches far to the south and west and we overlook many mountain peaks from Slovenia to Upper Styria and of course also the Hochwechsel.
If the children want to be active again after a rest, they may collect wood and we make a campfire together!

Equipment
Proper backpacking makes many things easier: pack heavy things first. The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket. All things that are often needed such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map belong on top.
An emergency kit belongs in every backpack!
A clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended!
A good hiking boot is a good companion and should never be missing on the mountain!
Do not forget a blister plaster just in case!
