Turn-by-turn directions
The first few hundred meters of this stage of the hiking route "From glacier to wine" leads us along the same path as on the stage from Obdach to Salzstiegl back. At the crossroads at Hahnsattel we keep straight ahead on the north-south long-distance hiking trail 05 and hike through a shallow depression to the 1,745 m high Peterer Sattel. From now on, the rest of the trail leads along the border between Carinthia and Styria, accompanied by beautiful views of the two provinces in the south of Austria.
We hike around the 1,967 m high Peterer Riegel to the east and after just under 2 hours we reach the Bartholomäalm, a beautiful spot for a rest and also the highest point of our tour today. After that, the trail continues along the border between Carinthia and Styria slightly downhill to the Hirscheggeralm, where one of the many exciting as well as strange-looking stone formations awaits us with the stone ovens. On this section, the Bernsteinhütte (Tel. +43 676 6851267) and the Knödelhütte (Tel. +43 664 2449643) also offer two refreshment stops, which we gladly accept. From here it is only about 3 km to our stage destination, the idyllically situated village of Pack, which is a popular excursion and recreation destination with its hiking opportunities and the Packer Stausee reservoir as a swimming lake. Alternatively, we can also be picked up here by the Kaltenegger family from the Gasthof*** Moasterhaus, which is located at the end of stage 15, and spend the night in the same. The next morning we will be taken by the free shuttle for further hiking to Pack or also to the Hebalm lake if needed, which reduces the next stage to about 12 km.

Equipment
Proper backpack packing makes many things easier: Pack heavy things first. The water bottle should always be within reach in a side pocket. All the things that are often needed, such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map, belong on top. An emergency kit, including blister plasters, belongs in every rucksack and it is always advisable to dress in layers.Statistics
