Turn-by-turn directions

Starting at the Alpspitz-Wellenbad parking lot, the footpath runs alongside the stream and over the railway tracks in the direction of Hausberg/Kochelbergalm. Continue on the path towards Hotel Hausberg, which you will see from quite a distance away. Turn left here and follow the path over the fields to the path leading to the Kochelbergalm (signs will point you the way). Now, its the time to put your snowshoes on. The path will now lead you, steeply, over snow-covered meadows until you reach the Alm (Alpine hut) (837 m). Here, you can have something to drink or eat and recover and enjoy the sun. For your way back, you can choose to walk over the road or return on the same way.

The Deutsche Bahn (German Federal Railway) offers comfortable and regular connections to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. When you have left the station, walk through the passage just behind the station; turn left at the station of the Bayerischen Zugspitzbahn and walk to the Olympic Ice Sports Centre. Walk past the Centre and in the direction of the Alpspitz-Wellenbad (the walk takes 5 minutes).

Getting there

Take the motorway A95 in the direction of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. When you have reached the end of the motorway at Eschenlohe, follow the state road B2 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Follow the signs to the Garmisch part of town. In Garmisch, follow the signs to Alpspitz-Wellenbad/Olympia-Eissport-Zentrum.

If you are coming from Innsbruck/Mittenwald, follow the signs in the direction of Grainau/Reutte when you have reached the Rathausplatz (town hall square). After the station, you will drive through an underpass. Turn left right after it, and follow the signs to Alpspitz-Wellenbad/Olympia-Eissport-Zentrum.

If you are coming from Reutte/Ehrwald/Tirol via the state road B23, drive into Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Turn right at the second traffic light and follow the course of the road until you reach the traffic lights right before the underpass. Turn right here to the Alpspitz-Wellenbad/Olympia-Eissport-Zentrum.
