The Mittlere Hörnle above Unterammergau offers mostly open slopes with a gentle to moderate incline in a south-facing direction. This snowshoe tour is particularly suitable for beginners. Touring professionals know how to appreciate the wonderful winter landscape, especially after fresh snowfall. With the Hörnlehütte we also have a place to stop for refreshments (a small turn to the north is necessary for this). Orientation is easy.
Only in extreme conditions is there a danger of avalanches here under certain circumstances. In any case, check the latest avalanche report beforehand. Snowshoe tour also suitable for beginners.
From the car park at the Kappel, we first follow a road towards the east. We keep straight on towards the southern slopes of the Mittleren Hütte and pass a few hay barns. After crossing a short woodland we go straight ahead through a gate at a fork in the path. Our ascent now becomes somewhat steeper and we keep to the left of a row of trees descending from the east. Above some maple trees, another track leads us in a left-hand curve through the forest belt. We soon reach a free mountain ridge. Follow this until you reach a last narrow step in the forest. Behind this we are immediately at the summit of the Mittleren Hörnles.
The descent follows our ascent route until we are back at the car park.
