4-day snowshoehike with start and end in Saint-Maurice-sur-Moselle.
Day 1: Saint-Maurice-sur-Moselle to Chalet du Plain du Canon (unmanned hut of the French Alpine Club, reservation required because it is closed)
Day 2: Chalet du Plain du Canon via Ballon de Servance to Ballon d'Alsace
Day 3: Ballon d'Alsace via Col des Mineurs to Chalet des Bluets
Day 4: Chalet des Bluets to Saint-Maurice-sur-Moselle
Best time of year
No avalanche equipment necessary on this route. Because of corniches at the eastern side of Ballon d'Alsace, we could no descent directly to Col de Ronde Tête and had to do a detour. A few days before a deadly avalanche accident took place at the Ballon d'Alsace.
Snowshoes necessary, from a height of 900m the snow stays. Below it fastly melts. January and february are the months with the highest chance for snow.
