Cross the three peaks of the Hörnle by snow shoe before reaching the summit of the Stierkopf is one of the most attractive hikes of its kind in the Ammergau Alps.

This tour is a combination of piste ascent and hiking across open terrain. It enables beginners to familiarise themselves with the technique of snow shoe walking on the first section of the route and apply what they have learned during the second section.

After an ascent through the skiing region and a stop for refreshments at the Hörnle Hut, the most spectacular part of the tour begins. As you continue up to the Stierkopf, you will enjoy fabulous views of the Alpine foothills, of Lake Ammersee and Lake Starnberg and of the Ester Mountains and Wetterstein.

The descent from the Stierkopf passes via the Drei Marken through the forest down to Unterammergau. You return to your starting point at Bad Kohlgrub by bus or rail.

The first section of this snow shoe hike takes you up onto the Hörnle in Bad Kohlgrub (alternatively you may opt to travel up by rail).

From the valley station of the Hörnle, you hike across the three peaks of the Vorderes, Mittleres and Hinteres Hörnle. Continue in a southerly direction up a steep slope to the summit of the Stierkopf.

From here, descend to the "Drei Marken" and on down into the valley to Unterammergau. The best way of returning to Bad Kohlgrub is by rail. This tour is also completely viable in the opposite direction.

Hier mein kleines Video dazu: http://youtu.be/T2XqpcOYZ6s
