This hike is accessible with public transportation from Munich during the summer months. You take the train to Lenggries and from there can catch the special hiking bus to the Eng Valley (Haltestelle: Oswald Hütte).
From Oswald Hütte you need to walk a short distance on the road before turning to the left onto the trail. The path is straightforward and it takes about 2 hours to reach Schafreiter.
After the peak, the trail drops down to the Tölzer Hütte which offers nice outdoor seating and a view to match. After having a beer, we continued down into the valley which offers many nice waterfalls.
The way down on this hike is long and steep in places. The reward at the end is a swim in Sylvensteinsee
