Sehr einsame Wanderung von Oberschachern auf den Sandkopf. Der gesamte Mönchsberg ist nahezu wegfrei und wird daher auch kaum begangen. Der sehr lange Hanganstieg ohne Steigspuren erfordert zwar keine großen Orientierungskenntnisse jedoch einiges an Kondition. Die Aussicht am Gipfel auf das Herz der Hohen Tauern und der permanente Anblick des Großglockners machen die Tour auf jeden Fall zu einem Genuss.

Startend in Oberschachern folgt man zunächst dem Weg zum Schachnerkasern. Ab dort gibt es kaum mehr richtige Wege und man geht immer hangaufwärts über die Appriacher Alm auf den Mönchsberg und von dort weiter auf den Sandkopf.
