Ausgehend von der Puglalm geht es über den Rumplmayrsteig hinauf zur Kampermauer (Vorsicht: Trittsicher und schwindelfrei!!). Auf 1.220 Meter Seehöhe erreicht man das Karlkreuz mit traumhaftem Ausblick auf die Haller Mauer.
Auf zirka 1.260 hm geht es dann im Wald schön dahin.
Am Schwarzkogel selber noch einmal Panoramablick, dann geht es wieder sanft abwärts Richtung Tannschwärze wo ein kleines Gipfelkreuz steht und ein Bänkchen zum Rasten einlädt.
Nach kurzer Rast wandert man über eine große Alm wieder talwärts Richtung Hengstpasshütte.
