A special feature of this landscape is the smooth transition between green pastures and the rubble of the southern slopes. Larch forests and pasture region contrast the bright, 4 km wide Dachstein Südwand. Huts, horses, cows and sheep are kept in this area.

Between the Brandriedel on the east and the Rötelstein on the west; lies Ramsau's pasture region with its beautiful viewpoints. From the Brandriedel, you will have impressive views over Ramsau's plateau and the Schladminger Tauern.

The Brandriedel inspired the Viennese author Kurt Maix to write a book about Ramsau's history and heritage.

Turn-by-turn directions

To the right of the Gasthof Edelbrunn, a steep, forest path follows along the Brandriedel to Austria Hütte. From there, either continue the descent to Brandalm or walk on to Hotel Türlwand. Walk past Gasthof Hunerkogel and take the next left onto a wider walking trail leading past Brandalm and the Dachsteinhaus, all the way back to Gasthof Edelbrunn.

Getting there

From the west:

Tauern Autobahn (A 10) to Knoten Ennstal - turnoff direction Graz/Schladming - stay on the Ennstal-Bundesstraße (B320) for approx. 20 km until Schladming - take the turnoff for Ramsau.

From the north:

Pyhrn Autobahn (A 9) direction Liezen - take the Ennstal-Bundesstraße (B320) to Schladming - turnoff Ramsau.
