This tour leads through the Mühlbach valley in Niedernsill, up to the idyllic situated Hacklsee at 2,196 m and over the Schmiedingerscharte at 2,716 m to the Alpincenter of the Kaprun glacier cable cars. Impressive views of the mountain world and the 3000 m peaks of the Hohe Tauern enrich the tour.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the hiking info point, follow the Dorfstraße road (hiking trail no. 1) uphill and then the Schattbergstraße road to the Burgeck snack station. Continue via Pionierweg/Vitalisweg to the Mühlbachtal forest road, hiking trail no. 722. Now the hike leads past the Schaunbergalm to the Schaunberg Mitteralm. Here begins the steeper, narrower ascent to the Hacklsee. Then follow the Krefelder Weg trail no. 711 over the Schmiedingerscharte to the Alpincenter at Kitzsteinhorn. 

The way back is via the same route or comfortably by cable car.
