The tour takes cyclists past popular culinary stops, shows shopping opportunities for regional products in the farm shops or by means of the 24-hour vending machines and also offers the service of the regional SAM taxi for pick-up.

In addition, eight new cycle rest stops have been set up along the tour and equipped with comfortable seating and lounging facilities. In other words, full comfort for our pleasure cyclists along the Garden Tour.

The project was implemented by Oststeiermark Tourismus and Regionalentwicklung Oststeiermark. The financial means for this project were provided by the Province of Styria, Department of Regional Planning and Regional Development.

Author’s recommendation

Numerous refreshment stops invite you to indulge in culinary delicacies. This turns the Garden Tour 1 into a pleasure tour.

We would like to thank all participating municipalities and partners for the joint implementation of the garden tour. The cycle path "Garden Tour 1" was supported in the course of the project "Cycle Master Plan Eastern Styria - Implementation of Discovery Tour 2" with funds from the Regional Department of the Province of Styria and was implemented in cooperation between Eastern Styria Tourism and Regional Development Eastern Styria.

The continuous signposting of the Garden Tour 1 will be completed by mid-September. The Garden Tour 1 runs along existing cycle paths, which are mentioned in the route description as an orientation aid.

Turn-by-turn directions

Starting from Hartberg, the Garden Tour 1 leads in the direction of Löffelbach (R 57 Pöllauer Radweg). The first of eight rest stops awaits us in Löffelbach. Following the garden tour signs, we continue in Schönaudorf in the direction of St. Stefan (HB 18), in St. Stefan we continue in the direction of Kaindorf (HB 18).

Once in Kaindorf, the next rest stop awaits us at the multi-purpose hall. From Kaindorf the garden tour continues in the direction of Ebersdorf. With the Pöllauer Safen in view, we reach the next rest area after approx. 6.5 km on the Ebersdorf-Höhe. Here you have the option of shortening the garden tour and taking the R33 to Auffen. Pleasure cyclists can follow the garden tour signs and get to the next rest area at Harter Teich via Schmiedbach and after the climb to Auffenberg.

Starting from Harter Teich, the garden tour continues to Hohenbrugg (R33), where the next rest stop awaits. From the rest area in Hohenbrugg, we follow the garden tour to Bad Waltersdorf (R33), where numerous refreshment and shopping opportunities await us in the town centre. In Bad Waltersdorf we continue on the Leitersdorf cycle path (R34), which leads us uphill to Sonntagsberg. After the climb we change to the R12 and cycle via Wagerbergberg to Haller, where the next rest area is already waiting for us. To get to the rest area, keep left shortly before the end of the village. Here you also have the opportunity to refill your water bottles at the drinking fountain.

Continue following the signs (and the R12) to Weinberg for the next rest stop. Starting from Weinberg and following the signs, we continue to the rest area in Weinberg. From here we continue to Steinbüchl and the next rest area, which is on the left (coming from Bad Waltersdorf) or on the right (coming from Hartberg).

From the rest area in Steinbüchl we follow the signs via Altenberg to St. Johann in der Haide and on to Hartberg to the starting point.

The last Gartentour 1 signs will be put up by mid-September 2021, so that from then on the specially created Gartentour 1 signage can be followed. The Gartentour 1 runs along existing cycle paths, which are mentioned in the route description as an orientation aid.
