In the heart of the Hunsrück there is a varied path that is extremely rich, mysterious and full of surprises: the Trauntal Höhenweg National Park Dream Loop. It leads over the Wehlenstein with its wonderful view and finally through the middle of the national park up to the "Vorastell", a Celtic fortification. From there, another breathtaking view opens up into the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. The route is very varied, sometimes a view, sometimes deep forest, some passages lead through damp sections in which the moor gradually reclaims its space. Romantic stream passages, paths between boulders and Rosselhalden, here the hiker is surrounded by the sounds of the forest and the water, and nothing else. If you are interested in the legends that surround places along the way and in the vicinity, you will find more here Information.
Author’s recommendation
Enjoy the local cuisine or a freshly caught trout. The gastronomy along the way offers just the right thing for every taste.
Paths close to nature that require surefootedness. In some places no cell phone reception. Several short sections can be quite muddy after rain, so please make sure you wear suitable footwear. When hiking, just pay attention to which kilometer you are on and forward this to the rescue control center if necessary, so that it is easy to find it in the forest.

Turn-by-turn directions
The start is at the pond in Rinzenberg. From here it first goes uphill to the Wehlenstein. On the way you pass a forest where a lot of spruce trees were recently infested with the bark beetle and had to be removed. The forest passage doesn't look very nice at the moment, forest has to grow back here. However, there are wonderful views to the south for the hiker for the next few years. The Wehlenstein is soon reached, the detour up the rock is worthwhile, as there are great views into the heart of the national park. The path now leads down to the Saustäbel, a former forest pasture and hut. The covered veranda is ideal for a leisurely rest. From here the path leads up to the "fore fort". From this legendary Celtic refuge you have a wonderful view of the landscape. The descent to the Forellenhof is short and once again offers great insights into nature.Along the river Traun it is now more leisurely, the path is wider here and leads slightly downhill, always accompanied by the rush of the water. Numerous birds can be observed in the meadow landscape to the left of the path. In March / April the following passage is the starting point for all friends of the yellow daffodils. The signs of spring bloom wildly here and make the meadows along the way a special highlight at this time. The former sawmill "Hujetsmühle" now houses a temple of the Hare Krishna movement. Every Sunday there is a Sunday festival around noon, visitors are very welcome. The dream loop leads along the back of the property along the gardens and pastures, following the Traun further and further. The ironworks weir is reached shortly before the adventure. The history of the Hunsrück iron industry comes to life here. The dream loop leads directly along the site of the former Adventurer ironworks. It is impressive to see how the hydraulic engineers of bygone days brought water into the hut area in a sophisticated canal system. The babbling of the Traun offers a nice change and the path nestles idyllically along the small river. The hike continues up to the field near Buhlenberg. Only in a twilight forest environment does the site open up and offer a wonderful view. Several benches and seating groups invite you to linger over the next 2 kilometers, always with a view to the south, with the forest behind you. Shortly before Rinzenberg, the path leads uphill one last time - and is rewarded with another fantastic view.

Leisure map "Rund um den Erbeskopf" - available at the tourist information of the Birkenfelder Land
