This easy path from Interlaken to Unterseen – one of the «barrier-free paths» designated by SchweizMobil – can be followed year-round.
From Interlaken-West station, the path traces the Aare to Unterseen before joining the varied lakeside path to Lake Thun. Glistening waters, lightly forested areas and avenues of venerable old trees catch the eye, as do the heritage-protected castle ruins of Weissenau and the Weissenau-Neuhaus nature reserve. Much of the lakeside path leads through this protected area, a park-like landscape of woodland, shrubbery and open reed beds. The shallow shore zone with its large reed belt is especially important to the waterfowl on a lake with few flat banks; more than 200 bird species have been identified.
In the attractive old town of Unterseen, the tourism museum, housed in the old rectory, traces the 500-year history of alpine tourism in Switzerland.
