Jungfrauensteig
A steep but rewarding hike to the "Steinernen Jungfauen" (bizarre psephitic rock formations).
Strenuous, steep but rewarding hike through forest and rock to the unique psephitic rock formations, the "Steinernen Jungfrauen". Here, the material to build the protestant church was extracted. There, you will have a great view of Ramsau's plateau and the Schladminger Tauern. The Brandriedel was an inspiration to Kurt Maix who wrote a book on Ramsau's history and mountaineers called "Im Banne der Dachstein Südwand".
It is a steep path. The surefootedness is necessary.

Turn-by-turn directions
At first, you will take the same trail as you would for the Roseggersteig until you reach a fork. A very steep, but rewarding ascent to the "Steinernen Jungfrauen". Go to the rock walls below the Gamsfeld. There, a trail will lead you through the Edelgrieß to the Dachstein Glacier or via the Landfriedtal or the Ramsauer Via Ferrata to the top of the Scheichenspitz. Either take the same way back or via the Gamsfeldgassl through larch fields towards Austriahütte or Brandalm. Take the 5-Huts Trail to get back to Gasthof Edelbrunn.
