Long and demanding hike on top the Schlern/Sciliar, one of the most famous landmarks of South Tyrol.
[for experiences mountain hikers which are fine with a difference in elevation of 1100m]
public transportation (bus, max. 7.00€, free with GuestCard)
cable car Seiser Alm (two-ways, 18.00€)
We will start in Bozen/Bolzano (260m) and take the bus to Seis am Schlern/Suisi allo Sciliar (995m), where we take the calbe car Seiser Alm up to the Seiser Alm to Kompatsch/Compaccio (1845m).
Here we start hiking accross the high plateau Seiser Alm towards the Saltner hut (1830m), slightly up and down. After the hut, we will have a steep ascent with zigzags to the top of the Schlern peak (called Petz, 2563m). From here you have an astonishing 360 degree panorama to the Dolomites and South Tyrol.
The peak is close to the Schlernhaus (2437m), a hut where we can have lunch or make lunch break.
The descent will be on the same path as the ascent, as there are not many alternatives, only with additional elevation gain.
OPTIONAL: For those who want even more hiking, we can do a crossing og the Schlern massiv and go down towards Völs am Schlern/Fié allo Sciliar (860m) through beautiful gorges and with the possibility to take a bath in a natural lake (for free). NOTE: this are 10.1km and 1700m down instead of 9.3km and 1100m down!
