Hike at Hintersteiner Lake
The Hintersteiner See, the high point of our tour, is located at an altitude of 883 m at the south-western end of the Wilder-Kaiser-Höhenzzug. It is 56 ha in size and 36 m deep and was formed during the last ice age. Underground springs feed the lake with crystal-clear water. Situated in the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve, surrounded by alpine meadows and forested peaks such as Achleitner or Schafberg, it is considered one of the most beautiful and cleanest lakes in Tyrol – the mighty rocky peaks of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range serve as a backdrop. On the eastern shore, at the car park, there is a public lido and we can refresh ourselves after the hike. We hike along the northern shore of the lake, then through the forest and on to lush alpine pastures to the Stöfhütte and to the Walleralm, from where we walk through the forest again and back to the starting point.
