An extensive high-altitude hike over the long meadow ridge of the Montoz. Except for the ascent, only slight differences in altitude. On the way, a sumptuous panoramic view from the Vosges and the Black Forest over the Jura mountain ranges to the Aare plain and the Alps. Numerous mountain inns for refreshment. Few hard surfaces.
Ascend southwards from Tavannes station to the source of the river Birs and continue towards Pierre Pertuis. A forest track now leads steeply upwards to the mountain pasture of Le Grimm, then on a grassy track to the cabin (Montoz hut). The view of the villages of Tavannes, Loveresse and Reconvilier as well as Le Fuet, Bellelay and Tramelan slightly further away is impressive. Then pass through a stretch of woodland to reach the Métairie de Werdt mountain restaurant with its magnificent view of the Chasseral mountains, the Seeland and the Alps. Via the Métairie de Malleray on the northern mountain range of the Montoz, one reaches the SAC hut «La Rochette» in the immediate vicinity of the highest point of the Montoz (1,327 m). A special treat awaits as the hike continues across meadows and past the mountain farms of Bergerie de Bévilard, Montagne de Sorvilier and La Bergerie to Pré Richard. The closeness of the language border becomes clear from the dual names of the farmsteads. An asphalt path now leads past the mountain restaurant of La Bluée (Tiefmatt) to the other side of the ridge and onwards to Längschwang. At this point one branches off to the South and reaches the Untergrenchenberg.
