Reason for the closure is the European wide spread of Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, which is an Ascomycete fungus that causes ash dieback, a chronic fungal disease of ash trees in Europe characterised by leaf loss and crown dieback in infected trees (see

The dieback makes trees instable and lets them break easily. As there are many ash trees along the trail and near the benches placed for pauses, the trail is closed currently due to the increased danger of falling branches and/or trees.
