Haltwhistle Walking Festival
Haltwhistle Walking Festival
Welcome to the Haltwhistle Walking Festival 2022, in the heart of Hadrian’s Wall country...
To mark the 1900th anniversary of Hadrian's Wall, Haltwhistle Walking Festival will have a distinctly Roman feel in 2023.
Running from 22nd April - 1st of May, the festival will start with the two-day 'Emperor Hadrian's Round', two long walks from Haltwhistle to Greenhead and back, taking in many of the more dramatic features of the wall. There will be a 'Steel Rigg Circular', a 10-mile walk centred on the most iconic stretch of the wall; and a walk along the Hadrian's Wall path from the ancient Mithraic temple at Brocolitia. Our tea walk this year takes us to the Roman fort at Aesica, and we have a special interest walk called "Hadrian's Wall Rocks" - an introduction to the geology on which the wall is built.
At the geographical Centre of Britain, and also the centre of some of the best walking in the country, Haltwhistle is the perfect location for a walking festival, where visitors and locals alike can spend a whole week walking, enjoying a different experience, and completely different views, every day.

For those not able to make the festival, the organisers have made a selection of their favourite walks so that you can create your own self-guided festival. GPS-enabled route maps have been made available here - see ‘Related content’ in the menu below.
