This stage of the Red Trail coincides with the 1st stage of the Purple Trail up to the crossroads. Walk from Tržaška koča na Doliču (2,151 m) down a wide mule track built by the Italian army after the First World War which follows the one-time border. The signposts indicate the beginning of the trail and contain directions for Luknja and the Zadnjica valley.
After a few minutes' walk, there is a crossroads where a path branches off to the right on a very rigorous ascent of Triglav (2,864 m). Walk down the mule track then follow the relatively flat but winding path down towards the Zadnjica valley. After about 10 minutes, a path branches off to the left towards Zasavska koča na Prehodavcih, which follows the exposed Kanjavica shelves.
Your route is somewhat more comfortable and follows a broad path through the valley. Lower down, another path branches off and crosses Komar. It is a much shorter route to the Zadnjica valley, which is your goal. The route is very difficult and protected with steel pins, making it suitable only for experienced hikers. Via Alpina follows the mule track. Walk along the southern side of the wide Zelenica plateau. To the right is the rocky terrain of Kanjavica's northern face. The bare rock is gradually replaced by dwarf pine and larch. The path encircles Skok and leads to the crossroads at Korita (1,508 m). 1h 15 min.
At the crossroads, climb down the eastern bank of the deep Korita ravine. Make the steep and winding descent to the gable of the Zadnjica valley. Here you will be joined by the path crossing Komar, which runs from the left over a rock face and past a waterfall. Turn right and downwards at the grassy clearing, then cross the footbridge over the stream until you reach the crossroads in the Na Planji gable (997 m). 1h.
From the left, you will be joined by the Slovene balcony trail "No. 1", which you will now follow to the valley floor. The path gives way to a poor dirt track, which descends gently through a forest. The dirt track eventually gives way to a better forest road, which leads you northwest through the valley across meadows and past isolated farmsteads. Cross the bed of Beli potok stream and the vehicle barrier to find yourself in Na placu (715 m). 40 minutes.
There is a parking area for passenger cars here. There is also a crossroads here, from which a path leads right to Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podi. From here on, the hike will be very comfortable. Follow the macadam road along the Krajcarica stream to the end of the valley, where it joins the main road linking Posočje to Gorenjska. You will have arrived at the settlement of Trenta, which is also the name of the valley into which you will now enter. Here you will find the Triglav National Park information centre. 20 minutes. The entire stage takes 3h 15 minutes.
