The Wandle Trail was created to educate guests and visitors about the history of the River Wandle and the area. The south of London is shaped by industry caused by the ideal location of the river. Along the riverbank were over 90 mills. Along the trails, there are exhibition points and info boards for you to learn about their use.

In contrast to the industrial landscape, the River Wandle is a natural habitat for numerous species. It is a typical British chalk stream, which has the ideal circumstances for animals and plans. The trail runs mostly along the river and leads you to green getaways to relax and enjoy nature.

The Wandle Trail offers a perfect combination to learn about British history while enjoying nature. The trail is suitable for all levels of cyclists as well as families.

The Thames at Wandsworth

Wegbeschreibung

Start your tour at the Waddon Ponds in Croydon and cycle along the path next to the River Wandle. Cycle straight ahead and follow the road in Beddington away from the river to the left. The route leads you to Beddington Park. Cycle along the southern end back to the main road and turn left. Pass Butter Hill bus station and turn left again to enter Butter Hill. At the end of the road and after you crossed a bridge over the River Wrythe, turn right into Mill Lane and River Gardens. At the junction, turn right into The Causeway. Follow it to the end of the road and on the left side, there is a pathway, which leads to the main road, Hackbridge Road. Cross the River Wandle and turn left to cycle on the Wandle Trail again. From there, you can use the river as a waypoint. Stay on the trail, which runs parallel to the Wandle. Cycle past the Ravensbury Park and through Morden Hall Park by following the river. Follow the trail in the northern direction. Cross Wandle Meadow Nature Park and shortly after passing the train tracks, there is a River Wandle viewing platform. Cycle along the trail and you will soon arrive in Wandsworth. Turn right in front of the Rose Garden of King George’s Park and cycle to Garratt Lane and follow it to the junction to cycle straight ahead (Ram Street). At the end of the road, turn right and cycle on the pavement. Cross the road and turn right to follow River Wandle again. After a few more meters, you reach River Thames.
