The hike starts from the Tegerbergbahn parking lot and goes rather steep for about 1h mostly on forrest road until the begining of the via ferrata. There you have the choice of taking the lighter Gelbe Wand via ferrata (which is allowed to be done in both directions) to the right, or continue up on metal stairs on the Tegelbergsteig (only allowed in the upward direction). The Tegelbergsteig is a 1000m long level C via ferrata with a 500m altitude gain and the wall is north facing, which renders it wet to some degree or another the whole year round, making for very slippery foot holds. It is estimated at 1.5h but it could take up to 3h if the route is crowded or the conditions are bad. A resting line/Rastschlinge would be recommended to have. Also, be aware of doing this route after a rainy period, as the wall does not dry easily due to lack of direct sun exposure. The route mostly consist of upwards climbs on metal bolts/footholds, traverse portions that can get tricky at points where the wall is vertical and smooth, and a couple of underclings. The via ferrata route ends with 2 sections of wooden stairs. The Tegelberghaus and the top of the cable cart can be reached from there on a normal hiking path in about 30 minutes. As an alternative to going up from there, you can go down on the Gelbe Wand via ferrata and after that hike back on the same route to the parking lot. The hike down from the top is a 1.5-2h path until Marienbrücke, with several Bellevue points over the area (lakes, Neuschweinstein castle), followed by about 40min back to the parking lot through the Sommerweg.
