Try the Golden Cap Holiday Park campsite (www.goldencapholidaypark.co.uk, 01308 422139) or the Anchor Inn (www.theanchorinnseatown.co.uk, 01297 489215) in Seatown. Both Chideock and Bridport are nearby and have plenty more facilities. Call 01308 424901 for tourist information.
Head back up the road and fork right by the campsite entrance. Keep right on a bridleway, then bear left up a grassy climb. Go left along the treeline near the coast – not the coastal path – and keep left to Downhouse Farm.
Turn left on the bridleway that heads uphill into the woods. From the summit, go down a grassy descent. Keep left, joining the treeline, and cross the A35, into a dead-end road.
Continue ahead along the treeline to a track crossing (Quarry Cross) and go left on Hell’s Lane. Join a road, keep left at the junction/triangle, then carry on through North Chideock to Ryall (the road becomes a track). Go right at the junction, then immediately left up Pitman’s Lane.
Follow this around the hill, go left at the junction and over the A35 onto a small lane. Turn right at the T-junction, ignore the track on the left and bear left on the bridleway a little further on.
Follow the singletrack along the treeline. Bear right at the top, exit the trees and bear left on a faint grassy track that bears right and drops steeply downhill. At the bottom go left to a farm, then left again on a tarmac track. Turn right at the staggered track crossing, following signs to St Gabriel’s Church.
Descend to the valley bottom. Bear left by Elm Cottage, back uphill, then go right, along the hedge, towards Golden Cap. Follow the bridleway to the left, along the hillside and through a hedge. Bear left across a field, through another hedge and across another field, then along the right-hand edge of some woods.
Go past a farm, turn right at the road and right again at the top, down Langdon Lane, following the car park signs. Continue along this track, go left at the T-junction and then fork right, down to a road. Turn right, back to Seatown.
