Along the way, you find several small caves (most notably the Grotta dei Colombi where human and animal remains were found dating back the Neolithic Era). Continue on to the top till you reach the Fortified Battery of Umberto I, known as the “Sea Fortress” built in the last century under the Savoy Administration of Count Cavour and used as a prison until the 1950s. After the walk, take the ferry back to Portovenere.
