Moosalp sits high between the Mattertal and the Rhone Valley. The whole hillside is a maze of amazing trails descending all sides towards Stalden/Embd, Visp and of course the trail in question to Gampel. The trail is for the most part flowy, with some moderately technical , narrow and slightly exposed sections along the bisse's before and after Brand.

Autorentipp

This trail is probably best ridden either early in the morning or towards the evening at high traffic times. (Sunny Sundays and holidays).

Gampel/Steg Train Station

Wegbeschreibung

From Moosalp head north for 100m until you see a trail crossing a field and cutting out a large bend in the road. Take this trail and on rejoining the road there is a technical XC trail running parralel to the road down to the hairpin bend at Bürchneralp.

At Bürchneralp take the singletrail going right into the woods and keep following the trail down to the junction at point 1759. (approx 2.5km). At this junction take the left which almost turns back on itself and climbs the trail towards point 1775 where it becomes dirt road and eventually crosses a paved road.

Cross the paved road and take the singletrail that descends to another dirt road just above Egga, turn left and climb this dirt road for about 2km until you see a bisse (irrigation channel) with a trail next to it traversing the hillside to your right. Take this bisse trail for a little under 2km until it crosses a small bridge and either climbs steeply to your left of descends to the right towards Brand. Take the trail towards Brand where you will join a dirt road which leads you towards the village.

In Brand take the paved road down to the first switchback in the road, here you will find a trail going off to your left, take this and almost immediately turn right. The trail will drop into the woods. This trail is undulating with lots of short sharp climbs and two small bridge crossings. Keep taking the undulating trail until it becomes a dirt road at Breitmatte, here you can descend the dirt road for about 200m before turning left on a short climb past a farm and turning right almost directly after a farm onto a trail which will once again lead you unto a bisse.

Follow the bisse until you get to a paved road where you will turn left and climb for 1.25km before entering another singletrail descending back towards the bisse. (It was once possible to keep going along the bisse at this point, but in 2014 the house owner put up no biking signs on this section of the bisse. Rather than cause grief and conflict it is better to do the road climb and get some more singletrail descending in).

Once you rejoin the bisse turn left and keep going until you once again come to a paved road. Turn right and take the next trail on your left. After 200m the trail turns sharp left and descends to another dirt road where you turn right and ride down to a paved road heading towards Eischoll.

Turn left on this paved road and almost immediately right into a swooping flow trail that will bring you down to Gampel.
