Jubiläumsgrat - The legendary German ridge without the use of cable cars. The ridge connects two of Germanys most popular mountains: The Zugspitze and the Alpspitze. On the way you will climb a few more summits.

It is an high alpine route which requires good conditions as well as adequate skills and endurance. Large parts of the route demand ridge climbing and will slow down your pace significally.

There are already a lot good descriptions about the three stages of the route which are:

1. Hammerbach via Höllental to Zugspitze

2. Jubiläumsgrat: Zugspitze to Alpspitze

3. Alpspitze to Hammersbach (vice versa)

To get it done in one day, it requires an early start (We started midnight). After finishing the tour, you have done around 3400 vertical meters uphill and 25km distance.

Sicherheitshinweise

Know your skills, endurance and abilities.

WATER! After the Höllentalangerhütte there might be no possibility to get water till Alpspitzbahn (If Zugspitzhaus is closed when at the time you reach it). I was drinking around 8 liters during the whole tour.

Ausrüstung

Depends on the conditions. If you don't know what to bring and how to prepare: don't do this route!

Wegbeschreibung

Stage 1: From Hammersbach always follow the signs to Höllental / Zugspitze. The way is marked very well and quite popular.

Stage 2: A few meters under the cross at Zugspitze you will find a sign for Jubiläumsgrat. Follow the ridge. Red dots/ strokes and "stone people" will mark the way.

Stage 3: From the Alpitze, follow the ferrata behind the cross down to the Alpspitzbahn. From the Alpspitzbahn there are different options to go down to Hammersbach. We decided to take the easiest one via Längendfelderbahn since we were quite tired.
