Leave Inversnaid and pass through the RSPB reserve and near Rob Roy's Cave before reaching Inverarnan on an undulating path.

The path from Inversnaid to the head of the loch is undulating with a generally rough surface. After passing Doune Bothy the path improves but it may seem a long two miles from Ardleish to Inverarnan.  If you are staying across the water at Ardlui, look out for the sign pointing to the little ferry (2 miles before the end of this section). Walk down to the loch shore and call the ferry by raising the ball (you'll be returned to this same spot the following day). Otherwise, Beinglas Farm marks the end of your day. Leave the way and follow the signs for Inverarnan.

This was a very long day. Lots of slow up and down over rocks made all the more difficult by the streams being flooded by the extensive rain the previous day. Some streams very difficult to ford and there was nothing for it but to go through boots and all. We were met by a man coming the opposite direction telling us a bridge was down and the stream impassable so he had turned back. When we got there the water had already receded enough for us to make a safe crossing. Despite all this it has been my favourite day. It was quite an adventure and the views once we came out into the open looking back at Loch Lomond were amazing. Oh, and we took 6.5 hours!!

This leg was scenic but also difficult. Lots of climbing and trying to avoid the mud. I believe the time is very conservative in it’s estimate we were 41/2 hrs.

Agree with comments about thus being way harder than advertised. Deserves a difficult not medium rating not because of distance but because you need to be part mountain goat to make it through the rocky ups and downs near the shore. Fantastic scenery. 5 hours. And don’t underestimate it. And take extra water. Second half gets a bit easier.
