Steady hike through the belly of the mountain range
This day is a smooth mountain hike with little challenges but impressive views throughout the day. This is because the trail runs along the flank of the mountain range and over one of the two central passes. We had perfect weather conditions, making this a textbook Alpine hike.
This is a typical guided tour hike for magazine pictures. Enjoy it in all peace.
Nothing to worry about on this hike!
Your water bottles and filter bag should be filled more compared to previous days: fewer and more shallow creeks here.
We started from the camp ground near the ruin next to the river. A few hundred meters away the double track starts, which you can reach by car/jeep. (1136 m)

This meadow must be the most beautiful place I ever set up my tent... Make sure to stop here for another reason too: the next camping ground is an hour away and that is the ridge, exposed to the elements. It is another hour of descent from there to the next flat field.
This hike runs along double tracks for the first half of the day. While not my favorite kind of trail, the views compensate richly. Markings are clear and the trail is indicated on all maps, so little experience is required this day. We lunched on Qafa e Mrehtit, the central pass with a near-360 view of the M-shaped mountain range. Descending to Curraj i Epërm is on a rocky single track, through forest. Nicer track, less views, again the perfect ballance! The initial plan was to cross the second pass (Maja Mripes) by taking a left in Curaj e Eperm, but time did not allow. With one extra day, that would probably be the best plan: to spend the night at Lumi e Plans and then walk the east flank all the way down to Fiërze. We stayed on the west flank and ended up setting up camp around 15:00h already because a) there was a source here (the creeks on this side of the mountain are a lot less frequent and more shallow) and b) the view is literally the most impressive one I have ever set up a tent. The 180° view of the mountain range turns orange while the sun sets. On the picture, behind the tent, you can see Qafa e Drockes, which I initially wanted to cross, but which is still snowed in throughout May...
You can probably reach the starting point by car/jeep, but we got there on foot...
