Alta Via 1 - Stage 4: Rifugio Lagazuoi - Rifugio Nuvolau

Plecam de la refugiul Lagazuoi pe traseul AV1 care, dupa statia de telegondole, se bifurca. Aici putem opta sa continuam drumul in jos catre Forcella Lagazuoi sau sa parcurgem tunelele din primul razboi mondial (tunelele dureaza aprox 2h30). 

Ajunsi jos in Forcella Lagazuoi tragem dreapta pe Nr402-1 iar dupa scurt timp ajungem la Forcella Travenanzes (2507m). AV1 trece prin Val Travenanzes fara sa mai coteasca si continua intr-o usoara coborare. 

Due S are the recognisable shapes of the shattered blocks of the Cinque Torri, with Averau and Nuvolau. Fork R on n.402 in gradual descent along the lines of trenches. Confus- ingly, two more signs announce Forcella Col dei Bos at slightly lower altitudes. At the third (2290m), turn L (E) onto n.404. 

Climbing a little, it skirts the awesome southern base of the Tofana di Rozes, passing a branch (2400m) for the Gal- leria del Castelletto (by all means climb up to view the en- trance to the war tunnel, now restored and the start of a via ferrata route). Further along this incredibly scenic path, n.442 forks R downhill across an immense eroded gully between the Tofane, where rock needles seemingly grow out of sand! Past a cableway load point is the Valon de Tofana junction (2120m). Continue 10min on the jeep track down to Rifugio Dibona.

Down the gravel road, n.442 forks R at the first bend. The steep path traverses beautiful conifer wood with roe deer and clearings of meadow saffron. The road from Cortina is crossed at Cianzopè.

Straight across is n.439, initially surfaced. A path soon breaks off climbing steadily S through wood and eventually emerges on the edge of an ancient landslide, a superb view- ing point over the Cortina basin. Soon a broader track is Rifugio Cinque Torri 

The path climbs a little further to the arrival of the chair lift at splendidly placed cheery Rifugio Scoiattoli (2225m, 10min) 

A straightforward track leads to a saddle and Rifugio Averau (2413m). Adjacent is an unusual broad incline alias path n.439 up the Nuvolau to the amazing perch of Rifugio Nuvolau (2575m)
