Day one - Nutfield, Surrey to Mistley, Essex. 95 miles
The 4compasspoints route consists of 4 stages and traces roughly the most direct, cycle friendly route, to each of the 4 UK mainland compass points. Leg 1 is broken down into seven days.
Day 1 starts on Sustrans route 21 and is virtually traffic free all the way to Londons South Bank, where it crosses the Thames via the Victorian foot tunnel at Greenwich, then continues on the River Lee Navigation past the Olympic Stadium to Waltham Abbey. From here it is on to quiet lanes through Epping forest and on north and east in to Essex, finally reaching the keyside at Mistley and the end of the first of many epic days of riding.
