The Shropshire Way 80k
Every April, runners and walkers from all over the UK and beyond descend on Shropshire to take part in a personal challenge through this fascinating and beautiful area.
Our mission is to connect people to the food, history and landscape of the Shropshire Hills and so we provide a quality choice of local food for everyone as they pass through our checkpoints. You can sample Shropshire Fidget Pies, a beef stew served in a barn high in the hills, local cheeses and sausages as well as our famous Bara Brith. After all, what better way could there be to explore what the area has to offer than to walk or run through its enchanting landscape whilst tasting the wonderful food heritage of the Shropshire Hills?
Entry fees include great local food & drink, first aid services, a rescue vehicle, a certificate of achievement and a SW80K Festival pin badge as a memento. All the events have a fun and friendly atmosphere and are designed to suit everyone from the hard-core ultra-runners to walkers just trying to complete within the time, to families having fun in the fresh air.
For more information about the festival, please visit The Shropshire Way 80K website.
If you are not able to make it to the festival, the organisers have made route maps and descriptions of the four events available on Outdooractive so that you can take part in a self-led “anytime” challenge, which lots of great local pubs and cafes along the way. See the Contents tab, above.
About the Organisers
The Shropshire Way 80k is a fundraiser for Grow Cook Learn, the charity which operates the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, and all money raised will be used to support the charity’s mission. This year, we hope to develop a wetland area in our meadows, with an accessible bird hide so that people of all abilities can learn about their local wildlife.
The Discovery Centre is based in the stunning Shropshire Hills, on the side of the A49 in Craven Arms. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, we are the perfect place to begin your exploration of the area.
- Explore the Ice Age through to the present day in our Through Time museum exhibition; relax in our award-winning café, and explore our 30 acres of riverside Meadows.
- Run by local charity, Grow Cook Learn, we are committed to connecting people to the food, history and landscape of the Shropshire Hills from our base in the heart of the Craven Arms community.
- We rely on donations alongside the income from our café, exhibition and shop to keep the Centre open for everyone to enjoy and to continue delivering our charitable aims. To donate to our cause, click here.
